Sometimes life gets in the way of writing a Roundup and you miss a night here or there. No big deal. Here's your Monday Roundup.
Favorites and Duds from Today's (Yesterday's) Commenting
Favorites, in no particular order:
It was a pretty slow morning until Fred Merkle stopped by the Unpaid Qatari Workers story to offer up a dark number for some well-earned applause.
[walks for days through the desert of Ray Rice/Stephen A. Smith hot takes; sees a glorious, green oasis on the horizon populated by Adolpho Birch trees; continues walking, despite protracted dehydration and the searing pain of malnourishment and sun-sickness; falls dead into pkellen2313's welcoming embrace, content and finally at peace]
Fresh off a shiny new Profile in Commenting, DougExeter hooked two favorites on the day. Petchesky's Broken Bats Porn attracted a lot of people to the "fetish" verbiage, and Doug's crafty double entendre was the best of all submissions. He also twisted the Japanese Actress story into a beautiful roundhouse on Chuck Knoblauch. Go ahead and divide up the Comment of the Day between those two, Doug.
Also in the Japanese Actress video, StuartScottsEye betrayed his archaeological acumen and penned an excellent variation on the Unwritten Rules meme, which may very well be reaching the point of diminishing returns.
I enjoyed this dumpy observation from Same Sad Echo in the Dancing Peyton Manning post. Oh, Eli, you're so punchable.
Isn't it incredible how the Ray Rice saga has deflected the worst of racism and Very Important Points away from the previous flytrap that was Donald Sterling? It's like you can actually find real jokes in Sterling posts these days. So, for instance, here's fusilliGaryBettman with a head-shaker of a wordplay. I seem to recall fGB working this angle a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday's submission shows that a bit more brainstorming can pay off. Well done.
Further down the Sterling update, Milo Minderbinder crafted a ridiculous continuation joke cum wordplay that made me burst out laughing. God that's a funny image.
scotchnaut snuck into the office just before closing time for a wonderful headline rewrite that arcs parabolic from the get-go.
Total Fucking Duds
Nope. No time, no energy. Stay tuned for today's Roundup, which will be posted today, Tuesday, and not tomorrow, which is Wednesday. God bless.
