Gary Richrath died today. He’s been pretty much out of the limelight for 30 years, and today I’d like to remember the R.E.O. Speeedwagon that played before they changed styles and hit it huge with Hi Infidelity (just as many prefer to remember pre-disco Bee Gees).

Richrath wrote and performed some real rockers. Golden Country, from 1972, is one of his best. The solo starts at 2:40, but the whole song is so different from what R.E.O. put out in the 80s.
