Cast: Nigel Terry (King Arthur), Hellen Mirren (Morgana), Nicol Williamson (Merlin), Gabriel Byrne (Uther Pendragon); Liam Neeson (Gawain), Patrick Stewart (Leondegrance)

Director: John Boorman (Beyond Rangoon; Deliverance)

Plot: Without giving anything away, this movie is a fantastic version of the Arthurian legend. It starts with Uther Pendragon (UTHER FUCKING PENDRAGON!) and ends with Arthur being ferried off to the Island of Avalon, and everything that happens in between.

Why you should watch it: It's a great take on Arthuriana. Boorman's direction, while sometimes poorly acted, is reverent and the cinematography is gorgeous. We get to see a young Byrne, Neeson and Stewart, and the film stays true to the legend as chronicled in Le Morte D'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory as well as homages to Chretien de Troyes and his Arthurian writings.
